Prescott Valley resident wins $2,500 in rent through mobile game app

Lynda DelTour of Prescott Valley won $2,500 toward her monthly rent payment by playing the PropQwiz mobile game app every day. 

The PropQwiz team surprised DelTour at her house with the prize money on July 29, complete with the PropQwiz mascot “PQ.” She said she had no idea that she’d won and wasn’t expecting the surprise in the slightest. 

“Well, our son played a trick on me and my husband,” DelTour said. “He came for a visit and he said he needed something from his car. ‘Could we help him?’ And so we go outside — and we 

have a car for sale, we thought he was having someone come and look at the car — And then here comes the PropQuiz crew; it shocked the daylights out of me.” 

The game encourages players to guess the prices of houses across the United States each day to be entered for a chance to win a weekly giveaway prize of $2,500. The prize must be put toward the winner’s rent or mortgage payment as part of the app’s public beta rollout. The top prize is $350,000 that can be used to buy a home, pay off a mortgage, or make a down payment. 

PropQwiz representative Stephanie Booker said the app was first launched about six weeks ago. DelMar is the third weekly winner since its, and the first winner in Arizona. 

DelTour, who moved to the Prescott area two years ago with her husband, said she started playing the PropQwiz app about a month ago. 

“I had no clue. Nothing like this ever happens to me,” DelTour said. 

Specifically, participants must download and install the PropQwiz app on their mobile device, create a free account, and guess the prices of houses via daily games on the app in which they can earn “PropTIX,” which each count as one entry into a random drawing for the weekly prize. The closer the guess, the more PropTIX players can earn.

DelTour and her husband are both retired, and she described the prize as a “huge weight” off their shoulders when it comes to paying their mortgage. 

She said she will keep playing the game and recommends it to anyone and everyone. 

“I got close Friday and I got close again today, so I’m pretty stoked,” DelTour said. “I have a big mouth and when I like something I tell everybody about it… I would just recommend this game to anyone. They don’t have anything to lose, and they could be a winner.”
